Prophecy Creek Park off of Skippack Pike in Ambler, PA – Sunday June 2nd 2013 – Two new ventures join forces to create a brand new annual event; Prophecy Creek Park and Ambler Food Co-op presented the Creek and Co-op 5K.
The Sunday morning was crisp and sunny. The sponsors set up tents in the shade of tall trees; there were T-shirts and race flags, information booths, and a big blowup finish line. It was professionally organized and well attended for a first event. Over 100 registrants, both runners and walkers, made their way through the cross-country trails over ponds, around the fields and through tree-lined trails. Most had never even seen this trail before this run and were delighted.
Nicole Werner, an avid runner and Co-op committee organizer said, “We are thrilled with the turnout of runners, volunteers and sponsors for our first Creek and Co-op 5k. The weather was perfect at Prophecy Creek Park and the partnership between The Ambler Food Co-op planning committee and Whitpain Township couldn’t have been better. This race showed that local partnerships utilizing our public spaces can lead to great things in our community.”
The winners were Seth Pollins in first, David Rosenfeld in second, and Ambler Food Co-op’s very own John Farley in third place. All finishers were enthusiastically greeted at the finish line.
Refreshments were made available by Ambler Bake shop and there was free fruit, pretzels and water. Other vendors onsite were Everyhome Realty, Barking Dogs Podiatry, Genisys Credit Union and Ambler Food Co-op. Food was donated by Superfresh and Weaver’s Way. Water was donated by North Wales Water Authority and Mary Mastroeni from Remax Realty.
The organizers would like to thank the participants, all 25 volunteers, and the sponsors who made this event so fun for all the first time out. The proceeds from the Creek and Co-op 5k benefit the Prophecy Creek Preservation Fund and Ambler Food Co-op.
